Instead of just making a traditional apple pie to take to my mom’s for Thanksgiving this year I opted to try out a recipe I found on Pinterest for Apple Crumble Pie (it’s listed as Caramel Apple Crumble Pie). I don’t really count it toward being “caramel” because it’s just a topping – you don’t add caramel to the pie itself. You could however add it to the graham cracker crust if you felt like it or to the pie.
This is the recipe that I made my own apple pie filling for that was posted previously. I also opted to not use a pie crust again for this recipe. I didn’t make any other deviations to the recipe I found on Averie Cooks besides the homemade filling and a graham cracker crust.
I could actually see myself making this again but I much prefer apple crisps/crumbles – it is kind of a strange pie consistency, it’s gooey and solid at the same time. It is actually pretty good and I would definitely consider serving it just after that half hour window mentioned in the recipe. I would also recommend serving it with the caramel or other sauce of your choice.
